ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਮਃ ੪ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਜਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ ਓਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਜੈ ਫਕੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਭਇਆ ॥ ਓਸੁ ਅਰਲੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਝਗੂ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਮੁਆ ॥ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕੀਤੈ ਜਾਂ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਏਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਪਇਆ ॥ ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਏਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਬਧਾ ਥੇਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤੇ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨ ਰਤੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਹਤੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਤੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਇਤੇ ॥੨੭॥
Meaning in Punjabi:
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ੁਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ; ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਵਸਤ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੰੁਗਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਪੱਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਿੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੋਕ ਫੱਕੜੀ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਮੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ), ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਭੀ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ ।ਉਹ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖੋ, ਕਿ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਜੁ ਭਲਾ ਬੀਜ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਭਲੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ) ।੨। ਸੱਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-ਰੂਪ) ਪਿੰਡ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਈ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਰਾਖੇ ਭੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ,ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ);ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ;ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ ।੨੭।
Meaning in Hindi:
अगर मनुष्य सतिगुरू के सन्मुख है उसके अंदर ठंढ है और वह मन से तन से नाम में लीन रहता है।वह नाम ही चितवता है।नाम ही पढ़ता है और नाम में ही बिरती जोड़े रखता है।नाम (रूपी) सुंदर वस्तु पा के उसकी चिंताएं दूर हो जाती है।यदि गुरू मिल जाए तो नाम (हृदय में) अंकुरित होता है।तृष्णा दूर हो जाती है (माया की) सारी भूख दूर हो जाती है।हे नानक ! नाम में रंगे जाने के कारण नाम ही (हृदय रूप) पल्ले में उकर जाता है। 1। जिस मनुष्य को गुरू परमेश्वर ने मारा है (भाव।जिसे रॅब के राह से बिल्कुल ही नफ़रत है) वह भ्रम में भटकता हुआ अपने ठिकाने से हिल जाता है।उसके पीछे लोग फकॅड़ी बजाते हैं और आगे (जहाँ भी जाता है) मुँह कालिख कमाता है।उसके मुँह से निरी बकवास ही निकलती है और वह सदा निंदा करके दुखी होता रहता है।किसी के करने से कुछ होने वाला नहीं है (भाव।कोई उसे सद्बुद्धि नहीं दे सकता)।क्योंकि धुर से ही (किए बुरे कर्मों के संस्कारों के तहत अब भी) ऐसी ही (भाव।निंदनीय) कमाई करनी पड़ रही है।वह (मनमुख) जहाँ भी जाता है वहीं झूठा होता है।झूठ बोलता है और किसी को अच्छा नहीं लगता।हे संत जनो ! प्यारे मालिक प्रभू की महिमा देखो।कि जैसी कोई कमाई करता है।वैसा ही उसे फल मिलता है।ये सच्ची विचार सच्ची दरगाह में होती है।दास नानक पहले ही तुम्हें ये कह के सुना रहा है (ताकि भले बीज बीज के भले फल की आशा की जा सके)। 2। सच्चे सतिगुरू ने (सत्संग रूप) गाँव बसाया है।(उस गाँव के लिए सत्संगी) रखवाले भी सतिगुरू ने ही दिए हैं।जिनके मन गुरू के चरणों में जुड़े हैं।उनकी आस पूरी हो गई है (भाव।तृष्णा मिट गई है);दयालु और बेअंत गुरू ने उनके सारे पाप नाश कर दिए हैं;अपनी मेहर करके सतिगुरू ने उनको अपना बना लिया है।हे नानक ! मैं सदा उस सतिगुरू से सदके हूँ।जिसमें इतने गुण हैं। 27।

Shalok, Fourth Mehla:Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord.He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam.He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled.Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved.O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. ||1|| Fourth Mehla:One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly.He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter.He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies.What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds.Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone.O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive.This shall be God’s determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. ||2|| Pauree:The True Guru has established the village; the Guru has appointed its guards and protectors.My hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is imbued with the love of the Guru’s Feet.The Guru is infinitely merciful; He has erased all my sins.The Guru has showered me with His Mercy, and He has made me His own.Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who has countless virtues. ||27||

Él medita en el Nombre, recita el Nombre y está entonado sólo en el Nombre. Logra las Bondades del Nombre y sus preocupaciones desaparecen.Encontrando al Guru, el Nombre se construye en su mente, su hambre cesa y también sus ansiedades. Dice Nanak, imbuido en el Nombre, recolecta sólo los Frutos del Nombre. (1) Mejl Guru Ram Das, Cuarto Canal Divino.Aquél que es maldecido por el Verdadero Guru, el Espíritu Divino, vaga por todas partes abandonando su verdadero Hogar. Obtiene mala fama y su semblante es oscurecido aquí después.Se revuelca como un loco, y calumniando a otros, muere.¿Cómo puede alguien ayudarlo, si Dios Mismo ha puesto tal destino para él?Donde sea que va, dice mentiras. Oh Santos, vean la Gloria del Señor, conforme a lo que uno hace, así es recompensado. Esta es la Verdad Eterna de Dios, que uno aprende en la Puerta del Señor, la cual Nanak proclama aquí y ahora al mundo entero. (2) PauriEl Guru ha establecido el Verdadero Recinto de los Santos, y Él Mismo lo cuida.Así nuestras esperanzas son satisfechas, ya que estamos imbuidos en el Amor de los Pies del Guru. ¡Qué Compasivo es nuestro Guru Infinito que borra todos nuestros errores!El Guru ha sido Compasivo con nosotros y nos ha hecho suyos.Nanak ofrece su vida en sacrificio a ese Guru Cuyos Méritos son Infinitos.
