Hukamnama Sahib FAQ – Meaning, Timing, Daily Guidance & How to Read It

Amrit Vele Hukamnama refers to a divine command or spiritual message taken from Guru Granth Sahib Ji early in the morning—during Amrit Vela (the pre-dawn hours, typically between 3 AM – 6 AM). It is considered Guru Sahib’s direct guidance for the day.

The official Hukamnama is taken daily at Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar during the early morning Amrit Vela and is available online and in Gurdwaras. Many Sikhs also take their own personal Hukamnama at home.

Option 1: From Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple)

• Read or listen to the daily Hukamnama.

Option 2: Personal Hukamnama (at home)
• Do Ardas with respect.
• Open Guru Granth Sahib Ji randomly.

Read the shabad (hymn) on the left page (ang) of Guru Granth Sahib after randomly opening it. Interpret it respectfully, or refer to authorized translations.

Hukum (ਹੁਕਮ) means order, command, or will, especially referring to the Guru’s or Waheguru’s divine will.

In Hindi, हुक्म (Hukm) also means order, command, or an authoritative instruction.

Do Ardaas, then open Guru Granth Sahib respectfully, and read the hymn on the left page. This becomes your divine guidance.
